I am interested in Human and Artificial Intelligence. I am interested in how to Improve the interaction between the two, and on how to get the latter to provide users with the highest Quality of Experience. I study all this within the context of Intelligent Multimedia delivery, but I am in general attracted by any use that we can make of artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve people’s mood and well being.

Short Bio

I obtained my PhD from the University of Genoa (Italy) in 2010, with a thesis on learning machines for objective image quality assessment, final result of a project on visual quality in displays funded by Philips research. After receiving the award for the best ICT thesis from University of Genoa, I moved to Eurecom (France) for a post doc on Digital Image Forensics and 3D face recognition. Since Octber 2010, I am Assistant Professor at the Multimedia Computing group of Delft University of Technology, faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS). At TU Delft, I work on image and video understanding towards the maximization of the Quality of (multimedia) Experiences. This is a highly multidisciplinary field that connects visual perception, cognitive science and engineering, machine learning and computer vision. Since 2015, I am also Faculty fellow at the Benelux Center for Advanced Studies of IBM, where I collaborate to the implementation of the Inclusive Enterprise vision. Since February 2016, I am also part-time researcher at the Distributed and Interactive Systems group of CWI. Finally, I am convinced we need more girls in the field. So, as a DEWIS (Delft Women in Science) ambassador in EEMCS, I work to promote activities to support gender diversity and women networking within my faculty.
